Don't Let Their Name Dissuade You, The Danks Are Not Dank At All

posted Friday, 31 October 2008

Don't let their name dissuade you, The Danks are not dank at all. In fact, they're bright and fun and I really like them.

They hail from Prince Edward Island, Canada, and at the moment are composed of two members of the band Two Hours Traffic and two Danks. So they're a hybrid of sorts. And god, they're young! Even so, I think the lead singer's voice is kind of raspy and sexy and it reminds me of Julian Casablancas of The Strokes. Does that make me a dirty old lady?

Samples is an EP and it comes out Nov. 4th. They have a full-length coming out in March 2009. Look to hear a lot more about them then.

The Danks--"Treaty Connector" mp3 off Samples EP (buy--you can't actually buy it yet, but you can stream it)

The Danks--"I Mean, Come On" mp3 off Samples

**Update** I was all ready to head into Philly to see Hercules and Love Affair this morning, unfortunately so were 1 million other people. Turns out the Phillies are having a victory parade today to celebrate winning the World Series and even though I thought I'd be smart and take the train in, so did everyone else! The line to buy tickets was probably an hour long and the train I was hoping to get on was so full it wasn't even going to stop at our station. So I couldn't go. I'll have to listen on the radio instead.

People come out of the walls for parades like that! We went to the parade after the Patriots won their first Super Bowl and we boarded the train at the terminal station. We still had to wait for a few trains to get on. Then, the train was totally packed, there were people drinking/drunk, and it was hard to breathe. The city was jammed and it was freezing. We only saw the team via a Jumbotron. We didn't even attempt to go to the Red Sox parade after that experience!

I like The Danks, though!

the part of town i was going to wasn't even near the parade route, but everyone from wilmington had to go via this one train route, so it was overflowing with people. oh well, i'm listening to the radio as i type. i guess it just wasn't meant to be! glad you like the danks, btw. maybe some day they'll come to town!

I've liked the few tracks I've heard by Two Hours Traffic so it makes sense that I like these guys too. Treaty Connector is pretty cool...nice find!

Dank-Disagreeably damp or humid. I love the idea of possible irony in the Danks' name, however i believe they are making a reference to something a little more kind. Love your blog and you turn me on to a great deal of new music. You and I will be eighty and still on top of the contemporary music scene, just keep five minutes ahead of Paste magazine and you will be fine.

ok, so i had to look up "danks" in the urban dictionary, and i think you are probably right about their name! i hope we're still on top of the music scene when we're eighty--maybe our grandchildren will be in bands or some such thing. : ) and thank you for your kind words. they mean a lot!

all mp3s are for sampling purposes only. you like it? you buy it. you want me to take it down? let me know. and for the uninitiated, if you wish to listen to a song, click on the little blue arrows and they will stream. thanks, your host and music lover, mjrc.
