Disco Redux (Sort Of)

posted Tuesday, 13 November 2007

I can't explain it, but a certain post of mine from exactly a year ago has gotten more hits than any other this month. It's a disco-themed post, of all things. I guess it goes to show that you can't predict what people will be interested in.

Anyway, I've been on the hunt for some danceable stuff and remixes myself, and here are a few songs that I've found lately that are helping me get my groove on. I take no credit for finding any of them firsthand, btw. They're not exactly disco music, either, but that's OK, right?

Shinichi Osawa is quite a find. He's a bassist and a dj and he does a lot of remixing and producing. He's been very influential on the Japanese club scene. (Read this.)  Anyhow, the first track just blows me away. It's propulsive and catchy and I loved it immediately, even though I can't quite figure out whether he's singing in Japanese or English. Doesn't matter. The second track is a much more laid back instrumental, but I love it just as well. His newest release, The One, just came out.

Shinichi Osawa--"Our Song (ft. Ultra Brain)" mp3 off The One (buy)

Shinichi Osawa--"The Patch" mp3 off The One

Scenario Rock is from "the east burbs of Paris, France" (I didn't even know they had "burbs" in France) and this song is fantastic. It grabbed me with its humor and enthusiastic vocals and the cascading chorus. You know what else I love about it? That he sings in English with a French accent. Very endearing.

Scenario Rock--"Perfect Love Antidote (Hey Champ Remix)" mp3 off Perfect Love Antidote (buy--I'm not sure this is out yet in physical form, but his myspace says where you can get it digitally)

Then we have this awesome cover of a--gulp--Jamiroquai song done by Calvin Harris. It's phenomenal. I can't stop playing it. I dare you to sit still when you hear it--I dare you!

Calvin Harris--"Stillness In Time (Jamiroquai Cover)" mp3 off ? I don't know. Just take it and enjoy it and we'll figure out how to buy it later.

Ha ha! Yes, I agree with you there.

I'm going to put that at the top of my Christmas list, I think. Until I see some other infinitely cooler novelty item. Won't take much, believe me.
