Some of My Best Friends Love Disco

posted Tuesday, 14 November 2006
It's come to my attention that not everyone loves indie rock like I do. Can you believe it? It's true, I tell you. There are people who actually still love disco. How can that be? you may ask. Well, I suppose it's mainly for the ease-of-listening it provides, and maybe for that shake-your-booty factor, too. Anyway, hard as it is for me to fathom, turns out these folks can't be bothered with a song in which they have to focus on the words or that doesn't grab them on first go 'round. The thought of putting effort into absorbing a song is enough to make them hit "next" on the cd changer faster than you can say "Sufjan."
That said, well, disco lovers are people too, right? So in order to pay them the respect they deserve, I've decided to put up as much disco/dance music as I can muster (in other words, this is as disco as I get). In fact, consider this my gift to them. But it's just for today, which shall henceforth be known as "I failed to indie-fy my disco-loving friends" day. And then tomorrow it's back to business as usual, OK? OK. (Oooh, you're so bad--I heard that collective sigh of relief!)
Scissor Sisters--"I Don't Feel Like Dancin'" mp3 off Ta Dah (buy).
Scissor Sisters--"Skins" mp3 off (I'm not sure what it's off, sorry!).
Blowoff--"Life With a View" mp3 off Blowoff (buy).
Fibes, oh Fibes--"Get Up" mp3 off Emotional (buy). This is a great song, disco or no.
Jamiroquai--"Runaway (Original Version)" mp3 off Runaway (Single) (buy). This one's pretty dang catchy, too.
Men, Women & Children--"Dance in My Blood" mp3 off Men, Women & Children (buy).
All right, dammit, I admit it--all these songs are great and I enjoy them quite a bit. Just don't tell anybody!

It makes me want to dance, shake my booty kind of music is fabulous! And your secret is safe with me as long as you don't tell anyone about the dancing/booty shaking thing. ;)

Stop! Stop!! STOP!!! My feet won't stop doin' the cretin hop - and it's all down to you and your pesky disco music!

Must say I'm partial to a bit of the old boogie-woogie juice. But it's got to have that off-kilter tang to it, i.e. just like these tracks do.
