The
Dewey Beach Music Conference (aka Dewey Beach Music Fest) is happening Sept. 28th through Oct. 1st in Dewey Beach, Delaware. Yep, right there at the beach. They've got 175 bands over 3 days. That's a lot of music. Granted, you may not have heard of 170 of them, but it's a showcase nonetheless. Actually, it's a fantastic opportunity for a lot of local bands to get seen and meet with folks in the business, etc.
One of the local bands I've heard of is
The Metrosexuals. They're a four-man band from Dover, DE, and play a fairly vigorous brand of sharp, electro-power guitar rock (not wimpy, if that's what you're thinking the name implies). If I were smarter, I could list off a few influential sounds I hear, but I'll let them do it instead: "Billy Corgan, Trent Reznor, European discotheques . . . " You get the picture.
The Metrosexuals--
"Beloved Listener" mp3 off their Web Mix (
buy) Or you can
go here and download it and two others for free--guilt free.
The Metrosexuals--
"Tears From A Doll" mp3 off their Web Mix (see above)
The Metrosexuals--
"Magneto" mp3 off their Web Mix (ditto)
This is fun--you can
play tetris on their website (if you can find it--look at the top of the page for the links to appear). This is cool--they do a cover of "Andy Warhol," which is featured on
Contamination, a
David Bowie tribute album, and they're playing
CBGB's Oct. 4th.
The Metrosexuals on
myspace. This is confusing--their myspace says they're from Wilmington, DE but their press says Dover. Not that it makes
too much of a difference.
How bad does this blow? I just found out that The Long Winters are
playing at the World Cafe Live next Thursday, same night I'm seeing Sufjan/MyBrightest Diamond, same night as Mates of State/Starlight Mints. Of course, it blows for me, not for Philly as a whole, coz this is one incredible night of music all around.
