One of the best finds I came across last year was Eugene Francis Jnr., an unusually lovely English musician. He's got a new album, The Golden Beatle, coming out April 28th, which seems like a long time from now but will be here sooner than you think. Plus he makes me feel all squishy inside--in a good way--so it makes sense to mention him today, no?
I heard the song "My Own Pollution" last year and it will be on the The Golden Beatle. It's a wonderfully imaginative, weird yet meaningful song that is incredibly affirming even as it acknowledges the pain and uncertainty life brings. Sounds like a tall order, but he does it effortlessly, in both the lyrics and the music.
And so this world just keeps on turning
Every lesson I am learning
Grab your blanket, run for cover
We'll embrace and hold each other
It's OK to break, we all make mistakes . . .
If you watch the video below you'll see what I mean.
And then you have "Poor Me." I can't stop listening to this song. I'm in love with it. I'm dedicating it to everyone out there who's trying to hold on, to hang in there, who needs encouragement. There's a joy in this that will lift you and make you want to hold on no matter what, just like he asks. Listen.

Another song of his, "Kites," was one of my favorite songs of 2007. It was the b-side to the single "Poor Me." I wrote about it here and quote some more lyrics. They are really too good to pass up.
I simply can't wait for the album to come out. You can preorder it here, if you find you can't wait either. You can also listen to some tracks here.
Hmmmm he is yummy indeed.
isn't he? i feel kind of silly for being so smitten, but what can i say?
he's scrumptious. :)
