Oh, I kid! I kid the contrast podcast. This week's podcast is filled with everyone's favorite covers. Specifically, covers of songs that they think are better than the original. Give it a listen or download it here.
My choice is unusual in that I just posted the original a week or so ago. And I like the original (duh). But the version by Cassettes Won't Listen simply takes it to a whole new plane. He gets across the intent of the lyrics and sings more authentically, with even more self-loathing and regret. Not to mention how he turns it into an electro-pop gem with CWL's trademark drums, synths and rich bass. And of course, there's something about his voice that's ever so sad and wistful, which I love.
It's no secret how much I adore Cassettes Won't Listen. Whether he's remixing or covering, he's definitely got a gift for transforming music and wresting out its guts, revealing things the original version didn't even know it had.

Next week's theme is "Cool Choonz for Children." Now won't that be delightful?
I've picked a lovely Dan Zanes tune for next week...are you submitting
something next week? (LOVE your picks, and Cassettes Won't Listen was new
to me..and COOL!)
thanks, nat, i'm glad you liked the cassettes won't listen. i sure am
submitting--in fact i've already sent it in! i always like your picks, too.
i think this cover theme could be a recurring one, as there are so many
good ones to choose from. : )
Hey, chickie. I dig this tune. It is funky indeed. Thanks for posting it
and for CYA with the CP. Got anything in for next week? I could submit an
hour's worth of my own! (12 year-old at heart) Cheers!
i hear you. i think all these years of listening to kathy o'connell, not to
mention having three kids, has given me ample children's music to pick
from. and yep, i've already sent it in. : ) glad you like the cwl, too. i'd
like to see him some day, but i think i'll have to go to new york to do
it.l
