Well, that's not exactly true. The contrast podcast theme this week (courtesy of James!) is "A place I've never been to." That narrows it down a bit!
Narrows it down for some people, but not for me. I've never been to a lot of places, as I am not what you'd call well-traveled. The list of songs I had to choose from was long indeed. (To listen to the entire podcast, you can go here.)
I picked a beautiful track by The Devlins but since I had so many others I nearly chose, I decided to put up a mini-mix of songs about places I've never been. Consider it my own personal contrast podcast.
Emily Loizeau--"London Town" mp3 off L'autre Bout Du Monde (buy) This is a gorgeous duet with none other than Andrew Bird. Really lovely.
Eksi Ekso--"Killing Texas" mp3 off I Am Your Bastard Wings (buy) That's right, I've never been to Texas. I'd like to remedy that by going to SXSW one year, but who knows when that will happen.
Bud Powell--"Dear Old Stockholm" mp3 off Bud Powell in Paris (buy) I'm not sure where I got this, but it's piano jazz perfection, gloriously, authentically old school.
The Devlins--"Montreal" mp3 off Consent (buy) He paints such an intimate picture of Montreal by expressing the simultaneous feelings of possibility, loss and confusion he feels while he's there.
Fever Marlene--"Oh Berlin" mp3 off White China (buy) I almost chose this one but Montreal won out in the end. It makes me want to hear the rest of the album, though, that's for sure.
Next week the theme is "darts." Hmmm. That might be a tricky one.
