I was all set to do a "mystery song" post about the song "Homeland" because it's on my ipod but doesn't have any identifying information, therefore I didn't know who did it. But then I searched my itunes and lo and behold it's by the band Bee and Flower, so mystery solved.
What a lovely discovery this band is. Lead singer Dana Schechter has a wonderfully smokey voice, and the music is an atmospheric mix of lush reverb and delicate guitars, with a touch of a retro-organ and some very cool percussive sounds. Perhaps it's so luscious sounding because the band hails from both Berlin and New York, which gives them an appealing combination of American and European flavors. I can't put my finger on it, but I do know that I like them a lot.
They released their second album, Last Sight of Land (which they recorded in Berlin), earlier this year. They're touring in Europe at the moment and have a Spring 2008 tour (well, February) scheduled for the UK. Check their website for all the details. In the meantime, enjoy these two tracks.

Homeland is great and Dana's voice has a hint of Aimee Mann in it, so it
appeals to me immediately!
I'd want to buy it sound unheard because that album cover is fantastic!
I might just do that...
nat--yeah, i hear a bit of aimee in there. not quite as deep, but nice and
dark like hers.
love the first song, but there seems to be a defect in the middle of the
recording. Is that intentional? otherwise i like the spooky feel they
create.
