I feel like I'm sort of back in the groove this week. Note that I'm qualifying that, as any day now the groove could up and disappear. Nonetheless, this week I'm feeling it and so I'm running with it.
Just the other day the Magic Wands magically appeared in my inbox. They're from Nashville. I have to confess that usually when I see that a band is from Nashville my first inclination is to think that they're not for me. I know that's very prejudicial of me, but I really don't care for country music, which is what I immediately associate with Nashville. So let me say straight off that they are not country in any way shape or form! They're a male/female duo with a definite dance/indietronica vibe.

Every time these two songs by Setting Sun come up I like them better, so I figured it's time to share them. They're a five-piece band from New York state with a fairly mellow, straight-up guitar sound mixed in with lovely strings (actually, they sound more like they'd be from Nashville than the Magic Wands) and I like the lyrics, especially on "Carry Me Away" when he sings, "I only know where I've been / I don't know where I'll go / in the peace of the night when my heart starts to slow / I think of these things and feel my blood grow / old and tired, and old and tired, and old and tired."

And just for fun, I'm including something by L.A.-based Rurik. It's a little bit rammy and so it's for my friends who like their music on the rammy side. This isn't probably something I'll play repeatedly, but it is Friday after all, so I think it's worth at least a couple of loud plays.

I'm glad you found your groove, Marcy! There's nothing quite like writing
with gusto!
I do like country music but I also like the Magic Wands
tracks you posted. And "rammy" is my new favorite adjective, I'm going to
try to use it and attribute it to you very soon!
rahawa--i think you'll like them. the drummer is kick-ass, one of the best
i've ever heard. i hope you have a good--and fun--weekend too. :)
I teach a whole army of rammy kids, and I reckon rammy will quickly become
a part of my everyday conversation. Great word!
