You never know what you'll find over at the
Contrast Podcast, which is one of the best things about it. Everyone's taste is so varied--and good--that I find something new to love every week.
The theme today is
"Alternate Versions," which doesn't mean other bands' covers of songs but the same band's different take on one of their own tunes (check it out
here). I had a couple choices this week, and I made my decision using this logic. I figured that in order to appreciate the alternate version, one would have to be familiar with the original. So I chose "Trains to Brazil" by
Guillemots, coz I think pretty much everyone in the blog-o-sphere has heard it but may not know the acoustic version.
I did have a second choice, which was "Joyful Girl" by
Ani DiFranco, but I wasn't sure it was well-known enough. Sorry if I sold you short by assuming that, no disrespect intended. I actually like this version better, but that's not much of a shock considering how it's drawn out and moodier. It's really beautiful.

Next week's podcast is something new: the first-ever
Contrast Podcast Song Chain. I don't exactly know what that means, but if Tim thought it up, then you know it'll be worth a listen.
