Two out of my three kids had imaginary friends when they were little. One was known as "my girl" and I think the other one was simply called "brother." I thought of this while I was vacuuming the other day and recalled how I used to threaten the children (the real ones) that if they didn't pick up their rooms, any toys they left on the floor would get sucked up. It worked rather well as a motivational tool. Yes, I know I was an evil mother!
Anyhoooooo, whilst vacuuming I was overcome with the strongest urge to make a mixtape, but since I have no one in particular to make one for, I decided I'd make it for my imaginary friend, which I guess would be you.

Come to think of it, the third child has what you might call a pretty strong alter ego--she signs all her school papers by the alternate name she calls herself and even makes her teacher and friends call her by it, so I guess that's along the same lines as having an imaginary friend. I certainly do have imaginative children. I wonder where they get it from?
I had two imaginary friends when I was little (I know, I'm greedy). Their
names were Ernie and Bert (I know, I'm original). Mum tells me she had to
set the table for them and tuck them in at night. She even tells the
heartbreaking story of when she accidentally shut the door on Bert's arm as
he hopped into the car, causing me to break down into torrents of tears. I
know. I'm crazy.
Hey Marcy..been ages i know !! My job is ruining my blog surfing time !!
Good set of tracks...i use to have an imaginary friend..when i think back
to it, it was bloody odd. It scared my parents i think.
p.s. when i was a little girl, my imaginary friend was the sun. whenever my
parents would fight, id ride my bike all around the neighborhood, then stop
and confide into the light. :)
joe--thanks!
agnes--do you actually remember your imaginary friend or is it only what
your mom has told you? neither of my kids really remember having them. they
were pretty little, 3 or 4, i guess, so it makes sense that they wouldn't,
but i kind of wish they did.
ross--dude! it's always such a pleasure to hear from you! turning 30, eh,
well, that deserves a huge party. how cool that you'll be seeing tim. about
scaring your parents, well, parents are easily scared, i can attest to
that!
nat--i do believe you are NOT imaginary! and yay for that!
danielle--i'm glad you like the music. you turned me on to lisa germano,
did you know that? it makes me a little sad to think of you riding around
escaping the house when your parents argued . . . but the sun makes a good
friend. :)
Nah it's only what Mum has told me. She says they mysteriously disappeared
when I was 2 and a half and my sister was born. Guess they felt left out
since I had someone else to play with! My brother also had an imaginary
friends called John, who was around for years. He used to call John up on
the phone and talk to him for hours. John unfortunately perished when a
horse pushed a tree onto him. Very sad.
