I'm stating the obvious here, but holy shit this day has been a long time coming! My son has been wearing his "1.20.09 / Bush's Last Day" t-shirt for so long it's worn out. It seemed like today would never arrive.
I'm trying not to be too pie-in-the-sky, but I am feeling very optimistic about the Obama presidency. I know it's not going to be perfect, and what with the economy in the toilet and all the rest of the world's woes, he's certainly not going to have it easy, but my god, it can only get better from here.
So here's to a new age, hopefully the start of what could be a golden age, although I'm more than willing to settle for bronze at this point.
TV on the Radio--"Golden Age" mp3 off Dear Science (buy) I like to think this song is about Obama and the promise of hope and change he represents.
Compare and contrast the above song to this one that they wrote about Bush in 2005.
TV on the Radio--"Dry Drunk Emperor" mp3
magnet from here
p.s. Here's a link to the lyrics of "Golden Age" and also to "Dry Drunk Emperor" so you can study them more closely.
haha I was putting together a post about the very same thing on my blog.
Good minds think alike. Cheers! To a new administration and the end of
BUSH!
Check out today's t-shirt over at Tee Fury (www.teefury.com) - it's a site
that has a t-shirt available for purchase each day, but only for 24 hours.
I usually check it out most days, though I've only ever bought one shirt
there. Today's is a special Obama one, it's pretty cool!
Actually, to me, the song rings as overwhelmingly negative, i believe the
golden age chorus is more a sarcastic social commentary than anything else.
I'm ecstatic that Bush is leaving, but I'm really not as hopeful about the
new guy and his administration. It's one of those "I have a bad feeling
about this" moments for me. But YAY YAY YAY, Bush is GONE!!!
rachel--amen, sister! i like your photo choice, too. : )
Oh good, glad you liked it!
I actually liked that yesterday was basically non-partisan, even with the
election of a black man to the office of President (my Republican &
Dixie-crat forebears were spinning in their graves, no doubt!) and the
clear repudiation of Bush's policies. And, I think we need to be careful
in raising our hopes up too high - Obama is only human and the challenges
are enormous. When people say they "believe", I worry.
i liked that it was non-partisan too, although i think "repudiation of
bush's policies" is the nice way of putting it. i thought he ripped bush a
new one!
It was a glorious day for America and the world!
